Simply Aging

VII. Supplementary

43. What are realistic near-term goals in aging biology?

Near-term goals may be framed as measurable improvements in healthspan by ~5 years, including delayed onset of multimorbidity, improved recovery from stress and illness, and extension of function-adjusted survival. At the mechanistic level, the goal is to slow deleteriome rise in key systems and to reduce specific burdens that disproportionately drive risk (e.g., chronic inflammation, loss of regenerative capacity, metabolic dysregulation). In parallel, the field may prioritize measurement approaches so that each intervention can be evaluated rapidly and reliably.
