57. Can damage dilution be engineered?
Some deleteriome components are concentrations of damaged or misregulated molecules and cells, suggesting that dilution could be beneficial. In practice, effective dilution would need to be selective (removing harmful components while retaining needed structure), repeated, and coupled to homeostatic control, otherwise the system will quickly return to the prior state. Dilution may therefore be powerful when paired with repair, replacement, or regeneration. Examples may include selective cell proliferation and renewal, and strengthening systems that dilute damage, e.g. the glymphatic system.
